(In actual Test the same sequence as shown in the Table above may not be followed)

6.2 Each multiple- choice question is followed by four answers numbered 1,2,3 and 4.  You have to choose the correct or best answer from these four choices and then darken the corresponding oval in the answer sheet.

6.3 The questions in this Test are numbered serially starting at 1 and ending at 170.  Start answering from the first question of each section and proceed serially.

6.4 Clear familiarity with the directions and questions is necessary.  It is important to read the directions for each set of questions carefully.

6.5 In case you find a mistake in the framing of the question or the answer-choices given or both, you need not waste your time on them.  You will be given credit for any such question.

6.6 Time should be allotted wisely within the limits given.  On any average, there will be less than one minute available for each question in verbal skills, and just one minute in each question in Analytical Reasoning Skills, and Quantitative Skills.

6.7 ATMA has been designed as a standard, benchmark Test with high quality and academic rigour. ATMA scores are useful in determining a candidate’s relative position in the whole test population. A candidate is not expected to answer all questions, within the specified time frame. You are advised to proceed through the Test at an even pace, skipping the more difficult questions, wherever necessary. You can return to the unanswered questions later, within the time specified for each section. If you wish to review your answers in a section, you can do so only in that section within the time limit. You cannot answer any other section(s) or read any other sections(s), backward or forward, as the case may be. Any violation of this rule will result in disciplinary action and even cancellation of your result.

7.0 Marking on the Answer Sheet

7.1 Use an HB pencil only for darkening the ovals. Ovals marked with an ink pen or a ballpoint pen or any other colour are not acceptable for scanning.

7.2 Remember that you have to darken (with a HB pencil) one oval for each question. More than one darkened oval for a question will be treated as an incorrect or wrong answer and a negative score will be given. If you have to erase, erase completely. If any dark mark/shade is left inside an oval, the optical scanner will read it as marked and score according to the rule.

7.3 A couple of HB pencils duly sharpened, a good quality eraser, a sharpener, a silent watch, the blank specimen answer sheet (Annexure VI) with your biodata duly filled in and a ballpoint pen can be brought to the Test Venue. Nothing else should be brought to the Test Venue. The ballpoint pen may be used only for signing.

8.0 Scoring

8.1 For each correct or best answer, you will get a score of one. For any question not answered, a zero-score will be given. A negative score will be given for a wrong or incorrect answer. For each incorrect answer, 0.33 point will be deducted. Thus, for three incorrectly answered questions, one mark will be subtracted from the total score.

8.2 A question with multiple answers, i.e., more than one answer, will be treated as incorrect and, therefore, a negative score (0.33) will be given.

9.0 Discipline at the Test Centre

9.1 Maintain the discipline and decorum of the test administration. Always follow the instructions of the Test Supervisors.

9.2 All rough work / calculations can be done in the Test Booklet itself and not in the answer sheet or elsewhere. Books, notepapers, calculators, slide-rules, hand-held mobile phones are not permissible. Giving / seeking / receiving help in any manner during the Test is not permissible.

9.3 Candidates must follow the instructions of the Test Supervisors in the Test hall/room. Violation of the instructions or any unethical practices will disqualify the candidate. The decision of the Supervisor in this regard will be final.

10.0 At the end of the Test

10.1 You should remain in your seat during the Test. You may leave your seat only with the permission of the Invigilator / Test Supervisor

10.2 At the end of the Test time, each candidate must hand over the Test Booklet and the Answer sheet to the Invigilator / Test Supervisor, before leaving the hall/room.

11.0 At the end of the Test

11.1 A candidate’s score will be cancelled by the office of ATMA, if any misconduct or unfair practice by the candidate is detected, by any of the several available means.

11.2 A candidate whose result is cancelled, will not receive his/her score and will be informed accordingly.

12.0 Reporting and Use of ATMA Scores

12.1 Each candidate will receive her/his ATMA score in the following format

12.2 Candidates can download their own score report from ATMA website www.atma-aims.org after  declaration of results for their reference.

12.3 ATMA score report for each candidate will contain four scores: viz quantitative, verbal, analytical and total. These scores are based on raw scores of each candidate and are statistically scaled with reference to the entire Test population. The first three scores measure different constructs and are neither comparable nor can be added to each other. Total scores range from 200 to 800. The scores can be easily interpreted, compared in each construct category and used for specific purposes. ATMA scores cannot be compared directly to other similar Test scores.

12.4 In addition to the scaled scores, the Score Report will also contain percent (%) below data. These indicate the percentage of candidates in the entire ATMA Testing population, who have scored below the candidate in that category. For example, if a candidate’s score sheet indicates 53%, it means that 53 percent of test candidates scored below her/him. Thus, the percentile score ranks an applicant to a management programme, in relation to other applicants, who have taken the Test.

12.5 ATMA scores in the Test taken on a particular date are valid to be used by the management Institutions for admissions in the next academic year only.

12.6 ATMA has so far been accepted by a number of Management Institutes, as one essential admission criterion in their post-graduate programmes in Management. Full addresses of these Institutions with code numbers and details of the programmes offered, are given in       Annexure IV.

12.7 These Institutes have the exclusive authority to decide on admissions to their programmes. ATMA or AIMS has no role in their admission decisions. ATMA scores will be reported to the student as well as to the Institutions she/he designates in about a month after the Test date, for admissions in the next academic year.

12.8 Each candidate, besides her/his personal Score Report, can indicate three institutes with correct code numbers in the OMR application form (item no.11) from the list in Annexure IV, to which she/he wants ATMA scores to be sent without any additional charge.

12.9 For additional reporting of the Test score, the candidate should write to the ATMA Office in Hyderabad, directly indicating the institutions to which her/his scores should be sent, with a fee of Rs.50/- per Institution applied for. The ATMA Office will send these scores within a week of the receipt of the request. For additional reporting, fill in the form in Annexure - VIII and send it to the ATMA Office in Hyderabad, with the requisite fees. It is candidate’s responsibility to apply directly to the Institutes of her/his choice for admissions separately

12.10 The ATMA Office will only forward the scores to the Institutes, designated by the students. Students are expected to apply to the various Institutes for their Admission Bulletins and Application Forms, within the deadlines for admissions to each Institute.

IMPORTANT POINTS FOR THE CANDIDATES TO REMEMBER
  1. Filled-in Application Form should be sent only by ORDINARY POST, after affixing necessary postal stamps. Any other mode of sending the filled-in application (speed post, registered post, courier, etc.) is prohibited.
  2. Candidates are advised to keep a Xerox copy of the filled in OMR application form for their future reference
  3. No certificate or document should be sent along with the filled-in application
  4. Candidates can indicate THREE INSTITUTES to which she/he wants ATMA scores to be sent without any additional charge.  For additional reporting of scores to more than three institutions, candidates are advised to read the instructions given under Section 12.9.
  5. For any inquiry, candidates may write / email to the ATMA office in Hyderabad, stating their Roll Number, Form Number and Test Date.  Inquiries accompanied by a self-addressed stamped post card will elicit a quick reply
  6. If any misconduct or unfair practice by a candidate is detected, directly or indirectly by any of the several available means, the candidate's score will be cancelled.
  7. Remember the deadlines - see Annexure V.

ATMA Sample Test

Time: 105 Minutes
Questions: 100 (Q.1-100)

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

You will find below 100 Questions as samples to acquaint yourself with the nature of the AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA).  These questions are drawn from different sources including previous tests held since February 2000.  ATMA contains 170 Questions spread over Six Questions – Analytical Reasoning Skills, Quantitative Skills, and Verbal Skills.  Each section is timed separately - 30 minutes each. Total time for the test is 3 hours.  Please refer to Para 6.1 in this Bulletin once again for details.

Please note that in the actual test, the Six sections may not appear in the same order as stated above.  Again, the test may or may not contain the types of questions given in the sample test.  The Test could also include other types of questions that are not shown in the sample test.

For each question, choose the best answer from the alternatives numbered (1), (2), (3) and (4), and then darken the oval corresponding to the question in the answer sheet as specified in paras 7.1 and 7.2 of this Bulletin.
Please note that ATMA has been accepted by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India and AICTE as one of the five tests for admissions to the MBA and similar programmes at the postgraduate level by AICTE – recognized Institutes.

ATMA scores sent to the Institutes by the AIMS office at Hyderabad (India) are only valid scores of any candidate. AIMS will not be responsible, in any way, if any Institute accepts ATMA scores, not sent directly by the AIMS Office, but sent by a candidate or by any other persons not authorized by AIMS.

SAMPLE QUESTIONS

The Test contains Questions on three abilities or skills.  These are:

  • Analytical Reasoning Skills
  • Quantitative Skills
  • Verbal Skills

Analytical Reasoning Skills

The Questions on Analytical Skills examine the logical thinking abilities of a candidate.  Do remember that a particular Question is less important than the reasoning task you are asked to perform.  No specialized knowledge of any particular field is required for answering the questions, and no knowledge of the terminology and conventions of formal logic is presumed.

In the Questions on Analytical Skills you need to analyse the situations on which each Question is based and then select the answer choice that is most appropriate response to the question.
Each set of Questions or group of Questions is based on a passage or set of conditions.  In answering some of the Questions, it may be useful to draw a rough diagram.  For each Question, select the best answer from the choices given, Darken the corresponding oval in the answer sheet.

Quantitative Skills

The ATMA Quantitative Skills Questions measure your ability to reason Quantitatively, solve Quantitative problems, and interpret graphic data.

Types of multiple – choice Questions include:
  1. Problem-Solving
  2. Data Sufficiency

Problem – Solving and Data Sufficiency Questions require basic knowledge of:

  1. Arithmetic
  2. Elementary algebra
  3. Commonly known concepts of Geometry

For each Question in Quantitative Skills sections, select the correct or the best of the answer choices numbered (1), (2), (3) and (4) and darken the oval corresponding to your choice in the answer sheet.
Number: All numbers are real numbers.
Figures:  Position of points, angles, regions, etc., can be assumed to be positive.
Lines drawn as straight can be assumed to be straight.
Figures that accompany questions are intended to provide information useful in answering the questions.

However, unless it is stated, a specific figure is not drawn to scale; the diagrams and figures are drawn as accurately as possible; you should solve these problems NOT by estimating sizes by sight or by measurement, but using your knowledge of mathematics.

Verbal Skills

The ATMA Verbal Skills sections measure your ability to read and comprehend written material in English language, to reason and evaluate arguments, and to correct written material to conform standard written English.  Because the Verbal sections include reading sections from different context areas, you may be generally familiar with some of the material, however, neither the written passages nor the questions assume detailed knowledge of the topics discussed.

Types of Multiple Choice questions used in Verbal sections include:

  1. Reading comprehension
  2. Sentence Correction
  3. Word meaning – antonyms, synonyms, analogies - your ability to recognize relationships among words and concepts, parallel relationships, etc.
  4. Sentence completions – your ability to recognize words or phrases that both logically and stylistically complete the meaning of a sentence.
In brief, the questions in Verbal Skills sections test your recognition of correct grammatical usage, vocabulary, and familiarities with words, your understanding and comprehension of the language (English) while reading and your ability to write clearly and briefly.
